Sports Injuries

If you are a sportsman or sportswoman, it is very likely that you have suffered from at least one, if not more, of the following conditions at one time or another: Muscle strains, ligament sprains, tendonitis, bursitis, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, frozen shoulder, back pain, neck pain etc.
Whether you are an amateur or professional sportsman, you put your body through the same rigors that leave you prone to injury. As a result of injuring yourself, your body will have to compensate for the injury and put more stress on another part of your body in order for you to function. This is often why you can feel pain in other areas of your body after an injury.  At our clinic we can offer you a treatment and rehabilitation program that will get you back on track after your injury. Chiropractic can be of enormous benefit in treating and preventing further sports associated injuries, thus improving athletic performance.

At Northwest Chiropractic we have extensive work in sports medicine injuries. Our doctors are the team chiropractors for the University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletic Department and the Seattle Sounders FC.  We are trained to get you back to your sport fast.

Labor Injuries

In our experience with work related injuries (L&I), we know how important it is for you to return to work as quickly as possible, and at the same time gain complete recovery. We help to coordinate treatment plans that work with many health care providers to attempt to quickly resolve spinal, joint and muscle issues.

If you are injured while working, you must first appropriately report to your employer. This action must be taken as soon as possible after the injury. Your employer will then report the injury to Washington State Labor and Industries or Other Self-Insured Insurance. We can help you open up your L&I claim or if you have an open claim for a work related injury we can treat you for that injury.

One of the most common disabling injuries on the job is strain and sprain of the back/spine or repetitive motion injury. Most frequently the strain or sprain occurs in the lower back. Bending and lifting improperly are responsible for most of these cases, although neck and mid-back injuries can also occur in similar situations.

Our program of treatment provides effective relief for many work related injuries. A program of exercise will be suggested to strengthen supporting muscles of the spine as well as educating you on proper spinal mechanics to prevent future injuries. We also work closely with many medical providers, physical therapists and alternative therapists; massage and acupuncturists to help in your recovery. These steps have been successful in returning our patients to their normal and productive lifestyles and we will do our best so you may achieve the best outcome possible.

Motor Vehicles

We have had many years of experience working with auto injuries and we accept all motor vehicle insurances such as Personal Injury Protection (PIP) plans for auto injuries. We believe it is important to reduce pain and increase motion to the body to help it to heal as quickly as possible. We will assess the injury and develop a specific treatment plan (and can work closely with other providers) to attain the goal of the reduction of pain and resuming normal activity of daily living.

An auto accident is a mechanical injury; if you damage your basic body structure, such as in a whiplash injury, then you need mechanical therapy. When suffering from a mechanical injury, patients should see a doctor specializing in mechanical structure: this would be a chiropractor.  For example, when a car is wrecked, there is usually significant structural damage requiring repair. New bumpers, side panels, bodywork and paint are frequently needed. The car’s frame itself can be bent. Without these needed repairs, it may be structurally unsound and unsafe. The human body reacts in a similar fashion when injured in an auto accident. The spine can be rearranged, causing pain and spasms, the results can be painful and long lasting. It is necessary to treat the cause of the problems to help with the pain symptoms.

It is very important that everyone involved in a motor vehicle accident, especially children, have a thorough examination by a doctor that understands soft tissue injuries. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are the best precautions against future problems. Remember, an accident takes only a moment but the suffering could last a lifetime.

Everyday Living

Everyday activities can push the body to pain and injury. In most cases it is because we play too hard, too long or too fast, and sometimes it is from general overuse. We have chiropractic techniques for the whole family- from gentle adjustments for the young and older to deeper work for those who need it. We understand that being injured affects your ability to be active and being active is in integral part of health. We use the mindset of working towards a quick recovery to help all of our patients return to their active lifestyle.

Most people think chiropractic is for back or neck pain but we also treat shoulders, knees, hips, wrists, etc.  Slips, falls, car accidents, falls off bikes, sports injuries, poor posture, or a traumatic birth are all examples of what can cause the joints to jam up and swell. The unique chiropractic treatments in our office puts motion back into the joint thus taking the strain off of the injured tissue to help the surrounding tissues to heal quicker and more effectively. Most patients suffering from musculoskeletal complaints can and are successfully treated with chiropractic care every single day.

Common musculoskeletal conditions treated:
• low back pain and stiffness
• neck and upper back pain and stiffness
• mid back pain and stiffness
• headaches and migraines
• leg pain, weakness, numbness and tingling
• arm pain, weakness, numbness and tingling
• extremity joint pain and lack of flexibility; ankle, knee, foot pain, shoulder, elbow, wrist pain
• carpal tunnel syndrome

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain may start suddenly, but what differentiates it from acute pain is that it persists; it extends beyond the normal range required for healing. Accidents and diseases can result in pain that lingers long after the event that caused it. The problem is that the longer we feel a chronic pain, the more our bodies and brains compensate and change to accommodate it. Pain can change from a symptom to the actual problem. We understand how frustrating this can be and how to deal with it. Chiropractic care can often be the missing piece that chronic pain patient are looking for. By working with all of your healthcare providers, we can come up with the best plan to help you overcome your pain.
